Description

Rich, creamy, and irresistibly chocolatey—chocolate cream cheese frosting is the ultimate topper for cakes, cupcakes, and even cookies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk or cream (optional, for consistency)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy (2–3 minutes).
  2. Sift the cocoa powder to remove lumps and gradually add to the mixture. Mix until fully incorporated.
  3. Slowly add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed. Scrape the bowl as needed.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and mix thoroughly.
  5. Adjust consistency with milk or cream if the frosting is too thick (one teaspoon at a time).
  6. Beat the mixture on medium-high speed for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.

Notes

Use high-quality cocoa powder and real vanilla for best flavor. Chill frosting for 10–15 minutes if it’s too soft for piping.
