Description
Rich, creamy, and irresistibly chocolatey—chocolate cream cheese frosting is the ultimate topper for cakes, cupcakes, and even cookies.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk or cream (optional, for consistency)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy (2–3 minutes).
- Sift the cocoa powder to remove lumps and gradually add to the mixture. Mix until fully incorporated.
- Slowly add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed. Scrape the bowl as needed.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix thoroughly.
- Adjust consistency with milk or cream if the frosting is too thick (one teaspoon at a time).
- Beat the mixture on medium-high speed for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Notes
Use high-quality cocoa powder and real vanilla for best flavor. Chill frosting for 10–15 minutes if it’s too soft for piping.
